There is a lot in common between Book Authors and Academics - simply because most book authors are also Academics!

So the problems they face in terms of packaging and marketing their knowledge and products in general tend to be very similar.

Through our Finance and Investment Books website we have made contact with many authors - mostly being approached by them requesting us to list their books on the website.

• How to market their books effectively
• How to capture an audience/niche/market that will buy their kind of books
• Issues around intellectual property (copyrights/trademarks related to the work they have produced over the years (who has the right - author or publisher?)
• How to use the Internet in order to over come some of these challenges
• Lack of web design skills
• Lack of Internet Marketing skills
• etc

There are authors who also own websites. The unfortunate thing is that the way these websites are designed, and information is presented, doesn't help the marketing of the Author's books (and other products). One famous author of Finance and Investment books also has a website. Although he is definitely in a class of his own as far as writing books on Investment and Finance, his website is a complete turn-off! You take one look at it and you know immediately that the website is owned by an academic!

Basically, the text on his web pages looks like the way it was done during the very early stages on the internet! Not nice on the eyes! He also has some Microsoft Excel spreadsheets on his website, which demonstrate some of the examples and exercises from his books. Not very exciting to work with unless it's the first time you've come across a spreadsheet!

But he's much better - many authors don't even have a ONE Page website or Blog. And they wonder why the other guys are selling their books in big numbers whilst theirs seem to be standing one place!
